ArchWing Innovations Offers New Component eBusiness Service
April 30, 2001, Minneapolis MN
Component eBusiness (sm) is a new streamlined service from ArchWing that automates business processes and knowledge -- on the web. Component
eBusiness (sm) combines powerful programming with Internet technology to maximize efficiency, effectiveness and the delivery of outstanding internal and external customer service.
Components are encapsulated behaviors (chunks of software) that can be assembled and reused in combination to make a company more efficient. For example, a company wants to automate a business process that needs to connect with three existing software applications plus tie-in to a legacy database plus write reports that will be accessible to designated company personnel via the Web. To solve this problem in an efficient way, ArchWing Innovations will create reusable software components using Perl or Java that encapsulate the business process and write reports to the web.
Clients may expect the ArchWing service to take as little as 8 weeks, depending on the scope of the business process. Traditionally an application’s logic (its business rules, database, and presentation) were all inextricably mixed up in a monolithic application. A change made in any part of the program would affect many parts of the program, making changes time consuming and expensive. Some have tried to speed development by using shrink-wrapped products, but found themselves with products that really didn’t work the way they do business. Component
eBusiness (sm) solves these problems.
According to Jason Parker, ArchWing President, Components offer numerous benefits. “Not only are Components easy to model and create, but they are easier to document, maintain and modify. This means a faster time to market, which is ideal for e-commerce. And because Component applications are flexible, they are assets for the future. They can be reused to meet new and rapidly changing business requirements.”
Component-based software technology is gaining popularity as corporate IT staffs learn the limitations of traditional approaches. “It is unfortunate that too much corporate software has been built as monolithic code and does not implement the pragmatic aspects of Components,” says Steve Ozanne, ArchWing Chairman. “Today, however, there is growing, widespread recognition that component-based techniques are essential quality requirements for software.”
